Based on requests from libraries and archives, wanting to keep their literature in its original condition, Becker Technologies developed the PAPERSAVE ® deacidification process.

Bound books, records, newspapers and other literature can be deacidified with this process and made available to future generations in its original splendour.

The Becker Technologies PAPERSAVE ® deacidification process allows books of various compositions, including art prints, books bound in leather, as well as records in special forms and various packaging to be deacidified.

Paper, which has become brittle, with loose pages, or special sizes can be preserved with this process. Paper clips and staples need not to be removed.

The treatment solution is a patented new development. It consists of magnesium titanium dioxide for neutralisation and the solvent Hexamethyldisiloxan and is harmless to humans, nature and the environment.

This chemical system enables a thorough and homogenous penetration of the magnesium molecules into the paper structure. During this process the magnesium molecules collect and cover the paper fibres, forming a protective cover and neutralising the acid.

The treated papers are alkaline after the deacidification with a pH level between 8.0 and 9.4. The alkaline reserve of magnesium carbonate amounts between 0.5 to 3.0 % weight.
